The fabric, made of recycled cotton and recycled plastic bottles, is plain-woven. The fabric is a light, coarsely textured cotton-polyester blend that suits both garments and interior textiles. We use plain woven fabric in all our fabric bags and collared shirts. The fabric measures approximately 144 x 500 cm. We use a batch of this size to manufacture nine Pure Waste fabric tote bags. The material costs around €8 per metre.

Approximately 17–20% of industrial water pollutants come from the textile industry, specifically fabric dyeing and processing. The plain weave fabric is not dyed, and harmful chemicals are not used in its manufacture; the gathered cutting waste determines the fabric’s colour. Compared to an equivalent product made from virgin materials, fabric from recycled materials uses 99% less water and generates 50% fewer CO2 emissions.
